Anakin Skywalker is a unique character in that he was on both the light and dark side of the Force. As a child Anakin learned mechanics from a horrible junk dealer named Watto, whom he and his mother Shmi were sold to as slaves. As a teenager he competed in the sport of Pod racing and became the only human skilled at the sport. He also had the ability to use the Force to see events that were to happen. Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi master, believed that Anakin was the Chosen One, when he met him. He believed him to be the one to bring balance to the Force. At first the Jedi Council was not agreeable to training Anakin because of age, but after he piloted a starfighter into the Trade Federation Droid Control Ship, the Council reconsidered. Obi-Wan Kenobi was appointed to train Anakin to become a Jedi. The two were eventually assigned to protect the Senator of Naboo – Padme Amidala. There were assignation attempts on her life and they were assigned to escort her to Naboo. Anakin soon fell in love with her. They would later become the parents to the infamous Luke Skywalker.
